I'm writing this while listening to Elton John.
I have no stake in Elton John. I haven't went out of my way to listen to his music and I didn't know anything about him other than that he was a singer. The best part of this movie was how well paced it was. At no point was I bored and there weren't any parts that felt rushed. The introduction of characters felt very natural and true to life, almost like this wasn't a movie and I was just watching his life unfold. The movie also told the story starting from when he was a young kid, putting emphasis on his parents' personalities. That part of his life explains a lot of the rest of his life. It was interesting how much the movie focused on Elton John being gay. I didn't think it would be one of the main struggles in the movie. I think the movie did a good job of telling it like it is and leaving it at that. Elton had a rough life. It was really hard to watch him take blow after blow to his self-worth. It all culminated with his spiral into alcoholism and drug abuse, which I thought the movie portrayed very well. That whole section of the movie was filled with short, muffled, and surreal scenes. Anyways, this was an 8/10 movie about Elton John's life. I liked how the movie starts and ends with him in that hospital, but it sort of closed the narrative to only talk about his problems, resulting in a pretty dark movie.
